Great inexpensive little notebook! Love it.
One little shortcoming that some buyers may not think is so little however, and which ASUS has apparently not taken yet taken responsibility for, is a wireless access problem.
My 1005 HA (white), just received from Amazon and running Windows XP, will access unencrypted/unlocked (no password required) public hotspots and private no-password-required sites just fine. However, it utterly refused to access my own password protected router (Linksys WRT54G2) no mater what I did, proclaiming “unable to find a certificate to log you onto the network.” It wouldn’t even pop up a place where I could enter my router/network password.
I quickly discovered that I was not the only one dealing with the problem. On one ASUS forum, a techie cried that after 20 hours of trying to figure it out he was ready to throw the ASUS out his 10th floor office window. Maybe because I am not a techie and don’t know what I’m not supposed to know, I figured out a solution after only some eight hours. If you have need you might try the following:
Click on (or double-click, if that’s what your XP is set for): Control Panel; Network Connections; (right-click) Wireless Network Connection; Properties; Advanced Properties; Network Address and at right ENTER YOUR ROUTER’S ADDRESS; click on Save or Save Changes at bottom of same page. That’s it. When you boot the ASUS within range of your router the ASUS will lock onto the router. The menu screen will still claim it can’t find the certificate but click on your favorite browser and it will be there (or go to the Control Panel, and Wireless Network Connection and pick whatever hotspot you want to access on the road per normal). Now mine works fine.
Where do you find your router’s address? You may have to Google the question, or contact the router’s mfgr. And while I love this model (I had a Eee PC 2G Surf before this), I did add an optical mouse, not yet received (Amazon sells an inexpensive ASUS optical mouse) as the touch-pad can be an unnecessary frustration.

| Review by CST (USA) 2010-02-08 The Samsung Netbook is very portable. The only problem I have with the product is the battery life. It sucks! I never had a labtop of any kind, so do not know if this applies to all labtop / notebook / netbook.... Read more reviews | ||
